If you’re an urbanite looking for just a little more breathing and living room and the ability to live, work, play and dine in one of the trendiest areas in Chicago, go West to the West Loop. Not only is everything Chicago offers in your back yard, you’re also just a hop, skip and jump, plus a happy, slap shot away from the United Center and the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks. The West Loop is the area bounded by the Eisenhower Expy on the south (400S), Lake Street on the north (200N), the Kennedy Expy on the east (750W) and Ashland Avenue to the west (1600W).
There’s a unique architectural blend here that some call “industrial chic.” What started out as a warehousing district has become an eclectic and electric montage ofgalleries and design firms, residential and commercial loft space, condominiums, high-rise office buildings and luxury loft rehabs. It’s not all intensely urban either; you can make green in the city by dayand come home and enjoy green at night with plenty of parks for walking the dogs and jogging your memory of the country. Thanks to its upward trend, this has become one of the city’s safer neighborhoods.
A Taste of the Good Life.
Hungering for the best in cuisine? You’re two feet (walk-wise) or a short Uber ride away from amazing ethnic neighborhoods, including Greek town, Little Italy, and a cornucopia of hip places to dine along Randolph Street’s “Restaurant Row.” The New American restaurant Girl & the Goat boasts Bravo TV’s Top Chef Winner, Stephanie Izard. Italian chef and TV star, Mario Batali hangs out at Publican. There’s Carrie’s on the Green for vegan comfort food and hundreds of other day and night eating delights. Mike Kaufman gives three thumbs up to Monteverde for upscale Italian (and great ribeye) as well as Momotaro for great Japanese and Cemitas Puebla for Mexican.
Browsing Housing
It’smetro from the get-gowithout the hassle of downtown living, so you’d expect prices to be rising as fast as the high-rise condos, but they’re not. It’s still less expensive to live in the West Loop neighborhood than River North, Lincoln Park or residences closer to the water.Residential towers are ample and high-rise complexes can offer a private world of amenitiesfrom a roof-top pool, to health clubs and perhaps shops in the building. Want to live in this lively, happening area at still realistic prices? Better move fast (literally) to contact Michael Kaufman. He’s your West Loop Realtor.
