In recent years, Bucktown/Wicker Park has emerged as one of the most culturally cool and trendy areas to live in Chicago. Located around the six-corner intersection of North, Damen, and Milwaukee, Bucktown/Wicker Park is proud of its eclectic and thriving artist community. But these neighborhoods are not just arty and flashy. Young, upwardly mobile professionals are happy to call it home. Even more mature folks are moving in to take part of the interesting events, historical sites and to become infused with the youthful enthusiasm of this North Side neighborhood.

On Damen Avenue, you’re two feet from everything. Walk to quaint bookstores, charming cafes, back street art galleries, and mom and pop stores. Shop ’til you drop at boutiques featuring the latest New York and L.A. fashions. Jump on the El and a ten minute ride takes you to the city. O’Hare is close too. And this neighborhood is far and away a dynamite place to dine.

Everything’s on the Menu: If you’re into food, open the menu that is Wicker Park/Bucktown for fare that’s downright sensational. There’s Harold’s Chicken Shack on N. Milwaukee, Zen Noodle on W. North, Blue Coral Sushi and a plateful of delightful Italian food at Lucia’s Gourmet Kitchen. Mike’s Favorites include: Hot Chocolate for breakfast, Lil Guy’s for lunch and and Club Lucky for dinner. Browsing Housing: Housing is as diverse as the neighborhood itself, and prices are varied too. You can find artsy lofts, newly constructed two- and three-flats, and mid-rises. Housing is a combination of the old and the new with plenty of condos that have cropped up in recent years. You’ll find huge vintage homes along “Beer Baron Row,” where many of the wealthy brewery owners from back in the day lived. Single-family homes run the gamut, from cottages and bungalows to completely made-over Greystones. There’s also a good deal of new construction. Speaking of good deals, let Mike Kaufman of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty, Inc., find you a good deal and a good deal more in residential housing. First-time buyers are a particular favorite and Mike always gets the most for his sellers.
